This tiny jazz and blues joint is more Chicago than NoHo--a nondescript facade fronting an equally featureless interior. The intimate, no-frills atmosphere puts all the emphasis on the music, and the club has earned
a reputation for booking superb local talent and big-name artists. This is
a musician's and music lover's club--so if you're not into the tunes, don't bother.

MikeStern
In a career that spans three decades and a discography that includes more than a dozen eclectic
and innovative recordings, four time GRAMMY nominee Mike Stern has established himself as one
of the premier jazz and jazz-fusion guitarists and composers of his generation.
Stern joins the Heads Up label with the August 2006 release of Who Let the Cats Out? Regardless
of who let them out, the cats are indeed loose on this album, and making a serious noise. Included
on the guest roster are bassists Richard Bona (who handles vocals on two tracks), Anthony
Jackson, Meshell Ndegeocello, Chris Minh Doky and Victor Wooten, trumpeter Roy Hargrove,
saxophonists Bob Franceschini and Bob Malach, drummers Dave Weckl and Kim Thompson,
harmonica player Gregoire Maret, and keyboardist/producer Jim Beard.

JeffLevenson
Levenson eventually came on board with a mission to make things happen. A seasoned
veteran of the music business who once ran a rock radio station with Howard Stern,
Levenson founded the jazz monthly Hot House with Gene Kalbacher in the early 80s
and then went on to become jazz editor at Billboard Magazine before becoming entrenched
in the record industry, heading jazz departments at Warner Bros. and then SONY/Columbia.
Basically I come out of the ranks of the jazz journalism world, he says proudly. I refer to
myself as a recovering jazz journalist who kind of moved into the world of record executive
and producer.
My mandate when I came on board was essentially to document music that I felt was worthy
of reflecting what?s going on in New York at this time, Levenson explains. The premise of the
label interfaces with the programming design of the club, so very often what happens is that
artists are programmed here at the club and then I'll decide whether or not we want to record
them, he says. Or I we've been in a position to actually put together groups or concepts which
then get presented at the club, which we then record. And that?s fundamentally the thrust or
the identity or the profile of the label. It"s the sound of New York jazz live.

Return with their second album An End Has A Start, on Kitchenware Records. Following on from the phenomenal success of debut platinum album The Back
Room the new recordings see the band deliver on the promise so many identified
on that record.
Recorded in Ireland at Grouse Lodge with Garret Lee and mixed at Olympic
Studios by Cenzo Townshend, the album sees the team behind the re-recorded version of Bullets set to work on an entire collection of Editors work with stunning results.
