Berman Entertainment & Technology Law

Tony Beman is the founder of Berman Entertainment and Technology Law, a law firm focusing on issues implicated by the convergence of technology and the entertainment industry.

Tony’s primary practice areas involve negotiation of entertainment and technology contracts and advising clients on legal issues involved in the formation of media-related organizations and protection of copyrights and trademarks.

He is the editor-in-chief of Multimedia & Entertainment Law Online News (MELON) and a contributing editor to Entertainment Industry Contracts, published by Matthew Bender.

Tony was the chair of the Sports and Entertainment Law Section of the Bar Association of San Francisco from 1998 through 1999. He is also an adjunct professor at Golden Gate University School of Law where he teaches Negotiating and Drafting Contracts in the Entertainment Business.

Tony received his A.B. from New York University, and his J.D. from New York Law School. He frequently speaks at entertainment industry conferences including the South By Southwest Music & Media Conference, the Global Entertainment and Media Summit, the Music Law Summit West, the Future of Music Policy Summit, California Lawyers for the Arts Music Business Seminar and the Streaming Media Conference.

He has been interviewed by media including CNN, CNET, NBC, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, Wired, The Chicago Tribune, The Los Angeles Times and The San Francisco Chronicle.

Prior to practicing law, Tony was involved in the entertainment industry as a manager, producer, performer and concert presenter. While in college he was a music journalist and radio deejay. Cockrill
Berman Entertainment and Technology Law

Howie Cockrill is an associate at Berman Entertainment and Technology Law. His primary practice areas involve drafting entertainment contracts for music, film and new media, forming media-related business entities and communicating with clients on issues of copyright and trademark law.

Howie is also the founder of CrazyTalk.org, a blog about independent music and the entertainment industry featuring reviews, photographs and podcasted artist interviews.

He received his B.A. from Davidson College and his J.D. and Intellectual Property Certificate from the University of San Francisco. He has also studied International Entertainment Law and International Sports Law at Cambridge University in England.

Howie has participated as a panelist and a moderator for California Lawyers for the Arts’ annual entertainment seminars on internet music licensing, marketing and promotion, and he has written articles on internet radio and podcasting.

Prior to practicing law, Howie worked as a photo-journalist blogger/podcaster for 2 nationwide concert series sponsored by Sony Pictures, Sony Ericcson, Ford Motors and Cingular Wireless. He has also worked as an associate music supervisor for films, negotiating and drafting licenses with record labels and publishers.

Howie is currently a member of the California Bar Association’s Business Law and Intellectual Property groups, the National Association of Recording Industry Professionals (NARIP) and the National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS).

Bezdek

Bianca Bezdek is a member of the New York Bar Association as well as a Foreign
Registered Advocate within the European Union. Having worked at the top global
and magic circle law firms Weil, Gotshal & Manges, LLP and Linklaters (in Prague,
Berlin and London), Ms. Bezdek has years of experience in film finance,
entertainment law and intellectual property, having also worked in development
and production prior to practicing law.

In 2003, Ms. Bezdek founded Bezdek Law, a boutique entertainment, intellectual
property, and corporate law practice providing counsel on all aspects of the motion
picture and television industry. Bianca Bezdek is also an adjunct professor of film
